Passenger rating is important for Uber passengers because with Uber you get matched with other drivers that have about the same rating as you. Drivers also would rather not pick up passengers with a low rating because they are afraid of a bad experience and getting a low rating from the passenger. Sometimes if you don’t give a tip, you are automatically given a 1 star rating by some drivers. Is the ratings system fair for passengers?
Before it was hard to find your passenger rating so Uber decided to update their app to make it more transparent and make it so it didn’t require so many steps to find out your passenger rating. Uber seems to have recently reverted this change to make finding your passenger rating more difficult again.
There is definitely room for improvement for the passenger ratings system. One might say it might be better to remove the system completely. The ratings shouldn’t have as big of an impact on the passenger because they might be the recipient of a unfair driver who rates them badly for any reason, such as if he had a bad day. It is also hard to improve your rating once it is low because passengers do not take as many trips as drivers do, meaning not as many opportunities to improve it.
