Uber Introduces Express POOL

Uber has introduced a new program called express POOL, which combines its new smarter drop-offs system with UberPOOL. This program is just like UberPOOL but with a few changes that can make your trips smoother.

How it works is riders will schedule their POOL rides in advance and wait at a designated area. Other passengers may be waiting there with you for the same ride. Once you are picked up, you will be driven to either the location that you have picked, or dropped off at a location near your destination and you will need to walk the rest of your way to your destination.

This system optimizes routes so that both the driver and riders do not need to deal with loops around the block and riders can get to their destination faster.

Uber App’s Lack Of Tip Feature

Uber Introduces Smarter Drop-offs

Uber has updated their app to include a smarter drop-off feature. If your destination requires the driver to loop around a block, the app will suggest a nearby drop-off point that you can get off at that will save both your time and the driver’s time and you can walk a short distance to your destination rather than driving around the whole block to get there.

This feature is optional and you do not have to accept the suggestion if you do not wish to.

Uber Supports Senate Bill 182 for California Drivers

After the SF Treasurer and Tax Collector subpoenaed Uber to provide Bay Area drivers’ personal contact information, Uber has taken legal action against them after they had refused to down the information from their website. The information they received is used in order to collect business license taxes from drivers in California.

Uber is in support of Senate Bill 182 which would prohibit local governments from publicly disclosing your personal information. It will also streamline business licenses and allow the need for only one license recognized throughout California, potentially saving drivers hundreds of dollars in annual business license fees.

Uber profiting by Manipulating Navigation Data

Uber might be hit with a class-action lawsuit in the future due to a “clever and sophisticated” scheme that will charge the rider a higher fare based on a slower, longer route that the driver could take.
