Uber Improves The UberPOOL Experience

As part of Uber’s 180 days of change, Uber has updated UberPOOL so that is more attractive for drivers.

  • Pickup fares – You will now earn an extra flat fare for every additional pickup you have during your UberPOOL trip. After dropping off the final rider, you will see the total pickup fare that you have earned.
  • Education for new UberPOOL riders – Riders using UberPOOL for the first time will now be educated on what they will experience during their trip. They will receive tips on how to be a great POOL rider as well. After their trip is over, they will receive an email for additional education on UberPOOL.
  • Arrival time reminders for riders – POOL riders will now receive notifications reminding them when you will be arriving as well as being able to see your location. This allows them to be better prepared for your arrival.
  • Straighter routes – Routing has been updated so that unnecessary turns are more likely to be eliminated, offering you a more straightforward route. This provides less stress and can save you gas.
  • Suggested pickup and dropoff locations for riders – The Uber app will suggest pickup and dropoff locations for riders. If they accept, the route will be adjusted automatically.
  • Safer pickup and dropoff locations for riders – If the Uber app detects that a rider is requesting a pickup or dropoff in a restricted area, the pickup or dropoff location will be moved to a safer spot.
  • End-of-trip-ratings for all riders – After you drop off your last POOL rider, you will be able to rate every rider at once from the same screen. Just make any adjustments you need and swipe to complete the ratings.

How Do You Avoid UberPOOL Trips?

If you don’t want to accept UberPOOL trips due to the lack of money it provides, there’s a couple of tricks that you can do to avoid them altogether.

What you want to do is if you find out that you have an UberPOOL request, you can just completely ignore it. This will have an impact on your acceptance rating but Uber cannot deactive your account for skipping these requests. If you skip 3 requests in a row, however, your account will go offline for about 10 minutes. If this happens, you’re free to use any other rideshare service to pass the time.  Another downside to this is a low acceptance rating will disqualify you for Uber promotions such as Uber Quests.

If you care about your acceptance rating, there are two trick to accept an UberPOOL trip but treat it like a regular UberX trip. The first thing that you can do is to go offline after you accept the trip, so you only pick up one passenger and take them to their destination. The other thing you can do is to press the stop new requests button for the same reason. It will basically be like a regular UberX trip except you earn the lower rates of UberPOOL.

Is UberPOOL Failing?

As an Uber passenger, UberPOOL is one of Uber’s cheapest services for you to take if you want to get somewhere. It’s cheap because you share the costs with other drivers. Lately, the service has been under a lot of controversy, however, because of its pay rate for the drivers.

Should I Accept UberPOOL Trips?

UberPOOL has been very controversial recently due to findings that it is actually one of the worst services for making money as a driver, so is it worth accepting trips?

The only reason you should accept UberPOOL trips is if you’re trying to reach your Uber Quest goal faster and to maintain your acceptance rating to qualify for any promotion that requires a certain acceptance rating.

Other than that, you should never accept UberPOOL trips if you care about the amount of money you make for your time. However, if you are worried about your acceptance rating, there is a way to accept an UberPOOL trip but treat it like an UberX trip instead, but you will be making the lower UberPOOL rates. To do this, accept the UberPOOL trip, then immediately go offline or press the button that says to stop new requests. This will allow you to keep your acceptance rating up and not worry about the multiple pickups required.

If enough drivers do not accept UberPOOL trips, Uber will be forced to revise the service to be more beneficial to the drivers.

Uber Introduces Express POOL

Uber has introduced a new program called express POOL, which combines its new smarter drop-offs system with UberPOOL. This program is just like UberPOOL but with a few changes that can make your trips smoother.

How it works is riders will schedule their POOL rides in advance and wait at a designated area. Other passengers may be waiting there with you for the same ride. Once you are picked up, you will be driven to either the location that you have picked, or dropped off at a location near your destination and you will need to walk the rest of your way to your destination.

This system optimizes routes so that both the driver and riders do not need to deal with loops around the block and riders can get to their destination faster.

Always be sure to look at what type of ride is requested, the rating of the passenger, and what the surge price is.
