As an Uber passenger, UberPOOL is one of Uber’s cheapest services for you to take if you want to get somewhere. It’s cheap because you share the costs with other drivers. Lately, the service has been under a lot of controversy, however, because of its pay rate for the drivers.
Additionally, reports have come out showing how UberPOOL might actually be a profit killer for the company. It was reported that back in 2015, Uber was burning 1 million dollars per week in San Francisco alone at times just to compete with the prices of Uber’s biggest competitor in the United States. This money was spent on trying to attract customers with low fares by using discounts. Once the discounts ended, about a quarter of Uber passengers supposedly switched to its competitors.
UberPOOL might continue to be losing money to this day trying to make the service appealing to passengers, but with a combination of drivers angry at the service for a lack of pay as well as its competitors competitive prices, drastic changes will need to be made to save UberPOOL.
